WELCOME TO EDGEWOOD COLLEGE PERSONAL COUNSELING'S
DEPRESSION AWARENESS AND SCREENING PAGE

More than 17 million Americans suffer from depression annually, and the majority of depressed persons do not receive help because their symptoms are not recognized or are blamed on personal weakness or stress.  In most situations, depression, once recognized, can be treated by therapy (counseling) and/or medication.  Through this site, you will find information about the signs and symptoms of depression and brief questionnaires that will help you determine if you would benefit from a more complete assessment and/or treatment.  It is important to remember that if you or someone you know is suicidal, that getting help is urgently needed.

Relief from depression is possible!

… Now count up your check marks.

· If you have checked 5 (five) or more of these symptoms, then it is likely that you are experiencing a serious depression, and would greatly benefit from professional help.

· If you have checked #9, it is crucial that you seek help from a counselor, therapist, health care provider, and/or confide in a friend or family who will understand and assist you in getting help.

· If you have checked #1, and two or more of the other symptoms, it is likely that you are experiencing a moderate depression that is most likely interfering with your enjoyment of life.  You would greatly benefit from talking with a counselor/therapist or other health care provider.
