SERVICE AT

compassionate world with the tools of study, reflection and action.

Community Service
Opportunities |
Luke
House Community Meal Program
The Community Meal Program serves dinner at Luke House for Madison's
hungry. Edgewood College provides dinner on the second
Sunday of each month. We need volunteers each month to help serve and
prepare food.
Look for sign-up sheets posted the week before the meal on th e
College Ministries Bulletin Board in DeRicci Hall, 2nd floor,
to the left of DeRicci 207.
We have a
core group of regulars, but every month we need extra food providers and
helpers. If you can make a regular commitment, please write “permanent”
next to your name and you will be added to the list. Contact
Mary Klink
at 663-3451 or
Steven Post at 663-2275 for more
information. Click on the diner to read more about Luke House.
Salvation Army
In
the evenings at this family shelter, adults attend classes covering such topics
as parenting, employment, and life skills, while the children participate in
supervised recreation in the gym, enjoy the children’s play center, or use the
library. Edgewood College has made a commitment during the school year to
organize the recreation time in the gym for the kids every other Monday from
6:30 – 8:00 PM. Sign up at Predolin 239 or contact Stacie

Food on the Fourteenth
Hunger is a reality for many in our community on a daily basis. We are
committed to collecting nonperishable food on the fourteenth of each
month to help stock our local food pantries. The collection points are
Phil's and Predolin 239. Food will be distributed to the Blue Dot pantry
on campus and to St. Vincent DePaul’s food pantry, the largest food
pantry in Dane County.
Edgewood Blue Dot Pantry
There are
times when Edgewood College community members are in need of food. If you would
like to help lessen that need, please participate in stocking the Edgewood
College Blue Dot Food Pantry, located in 303 Predolin (the kitchen next to the
S. Nona McGreal Room). If you know of Edgewood community members in need, please
refer them to the Blue Dot pantry. The pantry is not monitored, and everyone is
able to come and go as long as Predolin is open.
Your
donations of non-perishable canned or dried food can be placed in a bin at one
of the following collection points: De Ricci: Faculty/Staff Lounge - bin (across
from Bookstore); Sonderegger: Faculty/Staff Lounge - bin; and “Food on the
Fourteenth” bins in Phil’s and by Predolin 239.
Email
Kasey DeWitt
for more information.
Food Pantry Service
We serve the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the
month, and need volunteers to be a host in this customer-choice model of
distribution – operating more like a grocery store. This model not only
honors the dignity and ethnic diversity of the people served, but also
minimizes waste and promotes efficient distribution of the charitable
resources. The food pantry also distributes fresh produce. Sign up at Predolin 239,
or contact Nicole Heit for more information:

10K
Service Events
This Edgewood College
service organization will provide service events every month.
What is 10K?
The 10,000 Hours Show (10K)
is a year-round effort to engage young people in volunteer service that
culminates in a free concert for which the only admission is volunteer
hours to local nonprofits – because together we rock.
The idea is simple…. You
volunteer a minimum of 10 hours with a local non-profit or community
organization. You then log your hours on
www.volunteeryourtime.org. Once you’ve logged your
10 hours, you get
a ticket to the April concert. Then, you ROCK! Volunteer hours can be
completed and logged up until April 1st.

Vilas Zoo
The Zoo needs you! If you like a zoo environment - not meaning
college - think about giving some hours to help maintain Madison's
renowned Vilas Zoo. There are opportunities to greet
people at the gate, help keep the grounds clean, help create a Halloween
spook house in October, and much more. The monkey will lead you to more
information.
