13.  How could Phil’s Cafeteria change to better meet your needs? / Additional Comments:

Cost/ Meal Dollars:

·        For commuters, less meals and more Wingra dollars

  • “I wish that there was a list of a la carte prices, including salad / sandwich / beverage / desserts.  I would probably purchase more if I felt that I didn’t have to ask prices on everything.”
  •  “Better prices.”
  • “Open more often with select items for your way to class…so always a hot meal or sandwich bar.”
  • “Offer some low-cost entrees.  It gets expensive to eat here several times/week.”
  • WI students use their Wisc card to purchase food on state street.  We should implement a plan that allows us to use our Edgewood card.”
  • “Keep price down, and portions up.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Less meals and more Meal Dollars recommended, also ala cart prices, and grab and go options.  Focus groups are working on these issues for the cafeteria remodel.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hours:

  • “More flexible hours.”
  • “Extend eating time.”
  • “Have Phil there 24/7!!”
  • “Open at 11 instead of 11:15”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** More hours recommended – again focus groups are working on these issues for the cafeteria remodel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Healthy Requests:

·        More vegetarian soups and entrees

·        Please cook with much less butter

  • “More vegetarian soups and entrees.  Also, please cook with much less butter and oil.”

·        “Soup at dinner”

·        “More local produce—fair trade items.  Low fat—unprocessed food.

  • I like the fat-free ranch choice

·        “Offer less ‘cheese’.

  • “More healthy choices, more variety.  Ex: 100% juice, brown rice and other whole grains.  “More variety, less fattening, the food is too rich sometimes.  The desserts are always good!”
  • “Sliced cucumbers in the sandwich bar, also more breads with 3 plus grams of dietary fiber per serving.  More food w/ less processing and less partially hydrogenated oils.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** More vegetarian options – soups and entrees requested.  Also important, low-fat, higher fiber foods and whole grains requested.  Menu items for cafeteria remodel being discussed.  These are among them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Variety & Options:

  •  “Put fried fish on the menu and have ice cream every day.”
  • Not serve fish so much and have new entrees, not so many repeats.”
  • More variety
  • More variety of soup
  • “More variety of soups, plus soups at dinner.  Baked potato, beef vegetable, clam chowder, as more frequent possibilities other than chicken noodle or broccoli & cheddar.  Plus the schedule changes a lot.  What I think I’m going to is quite different…it happens more than I would think.”
  • “Cook more often oriental dishes.”
  • “More pasta (plainer)!”
  • “Chicken tenders more often.  Keep all you can eat.” X2
  • “They could carry Choula hot sauce.  The rumor is that next year Phil’s is going to only meal dollars, and getting rid of ‘meal plans’, if this happens, it will ruin Phil’s for large eaters like myself.  Though I love Phil’s, I’d never come back if that happens.  Also, Dale should be promoted.”
  • “More side dishes (hot); two soup choices.  Salad bar seems better this year.”
  • “Lettuce on salad bar cut smaller.”
  • “Stop having so much pasta.”
  •  “More snacks.”
  • “More chicken parmesan.”
