"I think part of the problem of missing plates/ silverware/ glasses/ etc. is that we are not able to take things "to go" unless we have a class or something.  It would help if we could get "to go" containers for any reason."
Reason - We cannot have "to go" containers because the Food Service has been instructed by their consultants there is absolutely not to be any "to go" containers.

"I was just thinking about the food at Phil's and had a seemingly good idea, or so I think.  I was wondering how possible you think it would be for the dining hall to put a little synopsis of nutrition facts with each serving choice.  They already have the labels of what everything is, so if they could just put a quick little blurb of the calories and fat grams, etc. under the label people would be able to make better choices of what to eat when on the spot in line.  Also, just simple things like the dressing selections--if a chart was above the salad dressings with how many calories and fat per tablespoon people could see that too.  I know they already have it all online, but this would make it even more accessible and should just be simple for the dining staff then to make too.  Just a suggestion.  Thanks!"

Response:

Thank you for your suggestion.  In the past we did post this information and students actually did not like it because they were feeling guilty each time they made their meal selections.  I realize that each batch of students each year are different, that is why I asked the question on the Fall Food Assessment Survey "how important fat and calories are to you?".  I haven't got the results back this year, but in the past, it didn't appear to be too important to be posted (other than online and in the nutrition brochure).
I will bring your suggestion up to Phil and see what he thinks.  I will then let you know.

I did ask Phil and the other food service staff about your suggestion.  Again, they said the students have not liked having the fat and calorie information posted and they do not want students to feel guilty about eating.  We all feel it is best to have this info available in the Nutrition Brochure at the cafeteria checkout counter, and on the foodservice website.
Thanks again for your suggestion

Lunch - Sugar-Snap Snow Peas
    Fair temperature
    Fair taste
    Fair overall quality

Suggestion - Not have brown ones and make them warmer
    Would eat them again
"I am very picky and know that a lot of the food is soaked in butter - can you offer more plain foods and then have individuals prepare their own food with what they want for example, plain chicken breast with optional gravy or sauce, or plain potatoes and butter or sour cream on the side.  I would have a much better appetite if some of these things were taken into consideration.  Thank you."

Response:  We can try to work on this.

For all meals, evaluated Milk
Excellent temperature, taste and overall quality
Requesting the choice of vanilla and chocolate soymilk

Response:
We only have one milk dispenser that can hold 4 different milk options.  We currently have Whole milk, 2% milk, Skim milk and Chocolate milk.  We do not have enough students that drink soy milk to make it possible for us to have it available daily.  If students have certain allergies or health conditions where they cannot have milk with lactose in it, we will work with that student(s) to better meet their needs.

11/7/04
For all meals, evaluated Yogurt x 3
Suggestion:
"Have Dannon yogurt."
"Have Dannon Light'n Fit back.  It has 80 less calories and none from fat, whereas Yoplait has 15 calories from fat."
"Bring Dannon back."

Response:
Yoplait was only ordered for a short time.  Once the current shipment runs out, Dannon Light'n Fit will be returning as our standard yogurt available at Phil's.

Suggestion:
"There should be juices available that are 100% juice NOT from concentrate".
Response:
In the juice machine, the orange juice and apple juice are both 100% juice.  The cranberry and grape are 50% and 25% juice, respectively.  With the juice dispensers, we have to buy juice packaged for dispensing.  At this time, this is what available to us from our vendor.

For all meals, evaluating beverages, especially juice:
Fair Overall Appearance
Fair Temperature
Fair Taste
Fair Overall Quality

To improve this item "Recommend having natural juices, not from concentrate".
Would not eat or drink this item again.
Also "Recommend better beverages, ex. soymilk, fresh juices"

Please see Response above.

Suggestion: "Having the menu posted on MyEdgewood is less convenient - sometimes MyEdgewood doesn't work, and when it does, you still have to sign in, and click on a few links - with the other website, one could just bookmark it so it could be assessed on one click.  Would it be possible to update the old site too?"

Response: The change to MyEdgewood, was made by administration.  Their hope is to eliminate the random websited from EdgeNet.  The bst way to check the menu is either the posting outside Phil's cafeteria, or for now, go to the original link off of Phil's Cafeteria website, and you will automatically be redirected to the menu on MyEdgewood.  You will still have to sign in, but the menu will come right up.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  I hope this route will make it easier for you to check the menu.
