Who is eligible?

Students enrolled in introductory, undergraduate classes who have satisfied the pre-requisites of the course.

How much will it cost?

Nothing!  Services are FREE!  However, our peer tutors' time is very valuable and we must pay them for all scheduled hours.  If you need to cancel or will be late, you must call to let them know.

How do I make arrangements to be tutored?

Call 663-3210 or 663-2281 to set up a brief appointment with Sara Anderson.  She will go over all tutoring policies, study skills for your course, and attempt to find you a peer tutor.  For writing or math classes, visit the writing center or math lab.  Fill out a request form on-line at http://edgenet.edgewood.edu/LSS/Peer_tutor_request.htm.

For what courses is tutoring available?

The availability will vary by semester.  An emphasis is placed on providing tutoring for introductory-level, undergraduate courses, but LSS staff will attempt to find peer tutors for any course for which a request is made.  Please be aware that it is often not possible to find an peer tutor for upper-level courses.  We will attempt to find an peer tutor for each request made; however, we cannot guarantee one.  Tutoring services are not available for graduate courses.

Where does tutoring take place?

Your first appointment will take place in Sonderegger 408 (the SRC extension office).  Most other appointments will take place there as well, but all MUST occur on the Edgewood College Campus.

When are tutors available?

The Math Lab and Writing Center have scheduled hours.  All other tutoring is done by appointment.  Tutoring services are not offered for winterim or summer courses.

How long is a tutoring session?

The typical tutoring session lasts for one hour and occurs once each week.

Who will tutor me?

All peer tutors at Edgewood are other students who have taken the course before and earned at least a “B.”  They are hired based on faculty recommendations and are trained to help you.

What can I do if no peer tutor is available for the course I request?

Your instructor is always the best resource for the course!  You should meet with him or her during office hours, or schedule an appointment.  Check your syllabus for the office, phone number, and office hours.  You may also make an appointment with LSS staff to learn study strategies for the course.  LSS staff may also be able to help you create a study group for the course.  Call 663-2281 or 663-3210 for more information.

What are my responsibilities?

One of the goals of Learning Support Services is to help Edgewood College students become independent learners.  It is your responsibility to seek out services, and use them accordingly.  You must:

  • Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions.  Tutoring is free, but you must call your peer tutor if you must cancel, or if you are going to be late.  If you cancel or miss three appointments, LSS will terminate your tutoring services!!
  • Be on time prepared for all tutoring sessions.
  • Regularly attend all courses for which you are receiving tutoring.

Failure to do any the above may result in the termination of services!

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact the Academic Support Specialist, Sara Anderson (663-3210).
