Guidelines for Academic Self-Assessment

You may not have received a great deal of feedback in your classes up to this point - that’s not uncommon in college.  Use the following guidelines to review your progress before asking your instructor for his or her feedback on the “Student Feedback Request” form.

1.      Examine your course syllabi to identify factors your instructors will take into consideration when grading.  Note what percentage (or how many points) of your final grade will be weighted on each of these stated factors.  Record any classes of concern below:  

Note:  You will need one Student Feedback Request for each of your classes!!

2.      Based on coursework completed thus far in your classes and your attendance and participation, give yourself a grade for each of your courses at this point.    

3.      Would you say that you actively participate in class discussions?     YES or NO

4.      Have you been attending all of your classes?     YES or NO  

5.      Are there any assignments, projects, papers, etc. listed on your course syllabi that seem unclear to you?      YES or NO  

6.      Have you taken advantage of any of the following resources on campus? (check below) Academic Peer Educators (Campus Tutors)
Student Resource Center
Study Groups with students from class or residence hall
Met with instructor before or after class to discuss questions you had about the course
Stopped to talk to an instructor during his/her office hours
Blackboard course site, materials on reserve in the library, etc.

7.      Complete self-assessment on Student Feedback Request prior to submitting request for feedback to faculty.
